Born and raised in New Mexico, I moved to Washington state's Columbia River Gorge area in '79. It's quite different from the southwest region but just as beautiful. I'm a self-taught artist, first started drawing at the age of 7. I started painting with oils in '67 and later discovered pastels. I describes pastels as ' wonderful, spontaneous, direct and forgiving.' Started painting various subjects of southwest culture, mostly people, animals, wildlife and landscapes, because each personality is different and each painting is a new challenge.
I like to experiment with different mediums other than pastels such as acrylics, oils, watercolors and watercolor pencils. Also paints on different surfaces such as ornaments, leather, tree conks, old crosscut saw blades and rocks. When I'm not in my studio painting, I take road trips in various places taking photos as a reference to my painting.
Most of my art works are commissioned. My paintings have exhibited in several competition shows and have won numerous awards from the Society of Washington Artists, county solo shows. The one art show I participated for every summer in seven years is located at Toppenish, WA.
Also, I have been participated in Artists of the Gorge juried exhibitions. I'm a new member of the Northwest Pastel Society. I have recently started painting again part time and look forward to participate in some of the art shows around the states. My care and attention to detail is evident in many paintings or drawings already on display.
